PORTRAITS

Capturing a nuanced expression, a subtle smile or blasting onto the canvas with an explosive yell! Portraits are a way for me to capture the energy of a person, character or creature. 

Over the years I've played around with lots of different materials, but I find that I'm most in my zone with black and white charcoal drawings. What I do is I use a reductive process that begins with a mid tone and carves away at the piece with highlights and shadows. If you'd like to know more about it, check out this YouTube video below!
